oodle.com to Power Facebook Marketplace

December 9, 2008 by Emma Sorensen · 2 Comments

Classifieds website oodle.com has been selected to power Facebook’s Marketplace, in a move that many hope will see social media working harder for classifieds.

Facebook Marketplace is the social media website’s online classifieds section, with the usual offerings of houses, jobs and free stuff. It was first introduced in May 2007, and oodle.com will now further develop the application and integrate it into Facebook.

Facebook Marketplace has been around since 2007. oodle.com will enhance and develop it further.

The deal was announced on oodle.com’s blog, where CEO and oodle.com founder Craig Donato wrote:

“This agreement gives us a great opportunity to extend our vision for a community marketplace – a new generation of online classifieds where you can buy, sell and pass along items with people you know or people you at least know something about.”

In a statement from the compmany, Ethan Beard, director of business development at Facebook said:

“Turning the development and management of Marketplace over to an innovator in online classifieds will give users more advanced ways to create and share listings on Facebook. We’re excited by the potential of the Oodle powered Marketplace application to offer an engaging classifieds experience on Facebook.”

For agents who use portals like UK’s zoomf.com, who are syndication partners with oodle.com, it means that their listings and brand could get exposure on the Facebook website.

The new partnership also expands oodle.com’s network of online communities, which already includes classifieds.myspace.com and oodle.military.com.

oodle.com plans to launch the new improved Facebook Marketplace in the first quarter of 2009.
