1 Million Downloads for realtor.com

realtor.com’s iPhone app has been downloaded over 1 million times in the five months since its release.

The top US real estate website says this is twice as many downloads as the next closest competitor over the same time period, referring to zillow.com’s app, which took nearly a year to reach the same total.

realtor.com adds that users fire up the app an average of twice per day, and that their average user session is 16 minutes. This is well above the average user session of five to six minutes for other apps in the iTunes “lifestyle” category.

New features have now been added to the app, including an “area scout” function that combines iPhone GPS capabilities with automated search features to provide automatically updated search results on the go. realtor.com says this gives house hunters access to information such as proximity to major roadways, average price per square foot, average prices of homes nearby, and average home sizes in the area via a map view.

“With more than 7.5 million homes viewed on the realtor.com iPhone app every month since our launch in January 2010, and thousands of calls and emails to Realtors from consumers via the app each month, our iPhone app is clearly connecting buyers with Realtors as they search for real estate properties and information,” says Steve Berkowitz, CEO of realtor.com operator Move, Inc.

realtor.com was recently ranked the top US-based real estate website by Google, coming in 786th place on a list of the top 1,000 websites for April 2010.
