apartments.com has kicked off its second Roommate of the Year competition, offering one year’s free rent and US$10,000 to the lucky winner.
apartments.com, currently at number 11 on the US Hitwise list, is asking entrants to create a video explaining why they are America’s best roommate. Once 15 finalists are chosen, public voting and official judging will determine the overall winner.
As apartments.com spokesperson Tammy Kotula explained in a recent interview with propertyportalwatch.com, the portal sees the competition as a way to create brand awareness amongst renters. According to Kotula, last year’s competition generated almost 80,000 views of the Roommate of the Year microsite, and around 20,000 people voted for the eventual winner.
“When it is time to move, we hope more renters will remember apartments.com as a reliable renter resource,” Kotula said. “Increased exposure to our website also benefits our advertisers with more qualified leads.”
