TDPG Challenges zoopla.co.uk

It was only a matter of time until The Digital Property Group (TDPG) challenged zoopla.co.uk’s claim to the title of second most popular property portal in the UK.

December 2009 figures from comScore released by TDPG today show that while rightmove.co.uk maintains a comfortable lead with 2,622,000 unique visitors for the month – an increase of 36.6 percent since December 2008 – the second most popular property website is TDPG’s findaproperty.com with 1,327,000, up 33 percent year-on-year.

comScore has traffic for zoopla.co.uk at 992,000 in December 2009 – an increase of 214 percent from December 2008. This figure places it third in the market.

primelocation.com follows with 869,000, up 33.6 percent year-on-year. The fifth most popular website is globrix.com with 496,000 unique visitors – an increase of 218.6 percent since December 2008. TDPG parent company Associated Northcliffe Digital just bought a 50 percent stake in globrix.com.

The biggest increase in unique visitor numbers was seen at zoomf.com, which registered 464.1 percent year-on-year growth with a total of 74,000 in December 2009.

Looking at the combined totals for the zoopla.co.uk and TDPG website networks, with de-duplication of unique visitors to each of their websites taken into account, comScore still has TDPG ahead with a total of 1,880,000 unique visitors, compared to zoopla.co.uk’s 1,101,000.

Will the title of second biggest UK property portal ever be decided? Comparing the Nielsen figures from November 2009 to the December comScore figures reveals some major disparities that seem to reflect more than just month-to-month fluctuations:

With such major differences in the numbers collected by these two global online metrics companies, only one thing seems certain: the number two UK property portal has a long way to go to catch up to rightmove.co.uk.

  1. zoopla.co.uk Challenges DPG Growth

    zoopla.co.uk is reporting comScore data, collected before the UK portal’s integration with propertyfinder.com, hotproperty.co.uk and thinkproperty.com, that puts its unique visitor numbers up nearly 13.87 percent in October compared to September. zoopla.co.uk’s statement quotes comScore figures that show a 0.57 percent drop in market leader rightmove.co.uk’s unique visitor numbers from September to October, an 11.33 percent drop for Digital Property Group’s findaproperty.com, a 1.09 percent drop at DPG-owned primelocation.com, and a 5.34 percent drop in unique visitors for propertyfinder.com....

  2. TDPG Sees New Year Growth

    As 2010 gets underway, it seems portals across the globe are keen to report a strong start to the year. In the US, both zillow.com and trulia.com have touted 2009 successes, and in the UK zoopla.co.uk has just claimed the title of second biggest property portal in the market. Now, UK company The Digital Property Group (TDPG), owner of findaproperty.com, primelocation.com, homesandproperty.co.uk and findanewhome.com, has joined the chorus....

  3. zoopla.co.uk Still in Second Place

    Joining the many property websites reporting strong traffic figures recently, UK portal zoopla.co.uk says it saw an average of 1.1 million unique visitors per month in 2009, which is an increase of 229 percent over 2008. zoopla.co.uk also says page views were up 269 percent last year to 154 million, and property searches were conducted at a rate of one every 0.46 seconds. In an effort to increase on that figure, the portal has just added keywords to its property search criteria. But the figures zoopla.co.uk is most interested in are Nielsen’s unique visitor numbers for December 2009....

  4. globrix.com Joins TDPG

    homesandproperty.co.uk may have left The Digital Property Group’s network, but there is already something to take its place: UK property search engine globrix.com. Associated Northcliffe Digital (AND), the digital consumer division of Daily Mail and General Trust, has acquired 50 percent of globrix.com. This acquisition comes after globrix.com’s founders bought back News International’s 50 percent stake in the business in December 2009. The terms of the deal with AND were not disclosed....

    UK property portal and property information website, zoopla.co.uk, has seen its website traffic rise a further 8.43 percent in the past month, according to the latest independent performance results from Nielsen and comScore....

    Nice piece even if the 464.1% rise for zoomf is a bit laughable – and points out how silly the percentage increase game is. The only winners out of this whole ratings game are Nielsen and Comscore etc al, who often extract huge fees from all the portals to publish all these tables.
