zoopla.co.uk Challenges DPG Growth
December 1, 2009 by Alice Allan
zoopla.co.uk is reporting comScore data, collected before the UK portal’s integration with propertyfinder.com, hotproperty.co.uk and thinkproperty.com, that puts its unique visitor numbers up nearly 13.87 percent in October compared to September.
zoopla.co.uk’s statement quotes comScore figures that show a 0.57 percent drop in market leader rightmove.co.uk’s unique visitor numbers from September to October, an 11.33 percent drop for Digital Property Group’s findaproperty.com, a 1.09 percent drop at DPG-owned primelocation.com, and a 5.34 percent drop in unique visitors for propertyfinder.com.
According to the figures, rightmove.co.uk’s unique visitor numbers for October were 3,142,000. findaproperty.com saw 1,588,000, primelocation.com 1,178,000, propertyfinder.com 1,169,000 and zoopla.co.uk 665,000.
Back in September, DPG quoted absolute figures, rather than a percentage increase, to claim its four property portals were the fastest growing in the UK market. At the time, DPG said the number of unique visitors acquired month-on-month provides a clearer indication of which brands property seekers are choosing to visit.
In its statement, zoopla.co.uk has the following comment on its absolute growth versus that of DPG’s portals:
“In terms of absolute growth in unique visitors, the recently announced preferred measure of DPG, which according to them ‘shows the true volume of consumer preference’, the figures reveal that the audience at their main portal, findaproperty.com, fell by 203,000 unique users in October versus an impressive gain of 81,000 unique users for zoopla.co.uk.”
zoopla.co.uk CEO Alex Chesterman had this to say about the results:
“zoopla.co.uk once again retains its title as the fastest growing UK property portal and continues to grow its market share. With the recent integration of the propertyfinder.com audience, we are now in a great position to continue our growth and offer even greater exposure and leads for our agent members.”
Meanwhile, DPG’s primelocation.com has released its own statement, outlining the relaunch of its Prime Index property market overview, stating its traffic figures are up 16 percent year-on-year. DPG also recently announced that its agency numbers increased by 44 percent in the third quarter of 2009.
Judging by the steady stream of figures being released by the rival portal companies, it seems unlikely DPG and zoopla.co.uk’s battle over the “fastest growing” title will subside any time soon.

The public bickering is embarrassing. You guys should team up against Rightmove and not spend your time in petty arguments. Have you thought about merging?
theres no challenge when you merge the traffic of hotproperty and property finder which had £0.5 M in SEO still in the tank it does not take a rocket scientist to go figure- DPG still wins traffic and also like rightmove does not need to merge sacrificial buy outs… take out pf and hp and you will still find zoopla standing along side globrix which i see now has its lead cut maybe looking over there is more wiser…
I was advertising with Property Finder, had problems with their website, months of empty promises of it working right, then more problems, (going on since Jan 09) then they merged with Hot Property, still couldn’t get access, now Zoopla and Property Index are in there and they say my acocunt does not exist!! I am still waiting for someone to get back to me, 3 weeks on!
The may be growing in size, great, but their treatment of clients is a 0 for me!
