forrent.com Now Offers Layar Search
December 11, 2009 by Alice Allan

forrent.com, a US apartment search website, has joined the growing number of real estate websites providing an augmented reality property search using Layar’s technology.
A statement on the website explains the application is free and works on iPhone 3GS and Google Android mobiles. It will show users all the available apartments on forrent.com within a 10-mile radius.
Commenting on the release of the new application, rentbits.com speculated on the way augmented reality could be used for real estate search in future:
“In the near future, this type of Layar technology will be able to be incorporated into eyeglasses or even the dashboard of your car. Imagine being able to see the valuation of a home while staring at it (zillow.com), what places are for rent, or even see who is tweeting in real-time, while staring at a building.”
In the latest Hitwise ranking of US real estate websites, forrent.com jumped three places to reach number 15 on the list.
forrent.com is owned by Dominion Enterprises and acts as the anchor website for For Rent Media Solutions, which publishes 99 magazines covering more than 190 US markets.
In June this year, forrent.com became the sole content provider of apartment rental properties to homes.com, another Dominion Enterprises brand.
