A new vacation rental application has made a splash with its Facebook based model.

secondporch.com allows vacation rental property owners to list their homes on Facebook for free and control who sees their listings. secondporch.com listings include photos and are displayed on Facebook walls as well as profiles.

Property seekers can search for available homes or post queries for specific trips and vacation homes through secondporch.com’s “friendsource” feature. Users can also bookmark properties and receive notifications on listing updates.

secondporch.com was launched in public beta in late September, and has since been featured by the Chicago Tribune, The New York Times and most recently NBC News. At the time of the launch, the website stated:

“secondporch.com fills a critical gap in this $50 billion industry, by allowing vacation home owners to market their properties in a tasteful way to friends, friends of friends, and, if desired, all 300 million of the social network’s members.”

secondporch.com president Brent Hieggelke says his application now has homes listed in 40 countries. According to techcrunch.com, there are plans to introduce a paid service in future that will charge homeowners US$99 per year for additional marketing and features.

Second Porch is a civil way to search for and rent out a vacation property.

And a balanced communication to boot.

Now my vacation rental guests can find out about me and my vacation rental properties. And they will be more than a name and email to me as well.

    Brilliant!
