themovechannel.com Tops Overseas Portal List

International property portal themovechannel.com has topped globaledge.co.uk’s list of the top 20 best optimised overseas property portals.

globaledge.co.uk’s list is based on algorithms that query Google to examine website rankings for the most popular English-language overseas property queries. Each portal is then ranked according to the number of times it appears in the top 20 and top 3 of Google’s organic search results.

themovechannel.com appeared in the top 20 in 60.3 percent of queries, just above rightmove.co.uk, which appeared in 58.2 percent. The Digital Property Group’s findaproperty.com came in third with 53.7 percent, followed by primelocation.com with 49.3 percent. Point2 Homes rounded out the top five with 46.1 percent.

There have been a few changes since globaledge.co.uk compiled this list in December 2008, when findaproperty.com came second, hotprop.com came third, rightmove.co.uk came fourth and leadgalaxy.com (which was acquired by themovechannel.com in February this year) came in fifth place.

The highest climber on the list was relatively new portal mondinion.com, which moved up 11 places to seventh position. In discussing the results, globaledge.co.uk had this to say to agents considering where to place their listings:

“Google visibility, although in our opinion the most important factor, is not the only consideration when choosing partners to work with. Brand strength, content and usability are also important which is why it is difficult not to recommend rightmove.co.uk to agents targeting the UK market.”
