rent.com, the portal recently overtaken in the Hitwise top 10 US real estate websites list by home improvement website servicemagic.com, is promoting its services through the results of a Halloween focused survey.

The survey, conducted by Wakefield Research, asked participants about their worst rental horror stories including “nightmare roommates” and “creepy or annoying neighbours”.

11 percent of those surveyed said they believe they have lived in a home inhabited by ghosts, and 69 percent would be willing to rent a home their believed to be haunted for the right price.

The survey results have been featured in New York Magazine as well as on websites such as about.com and filife.com. The Halloween survey is one of many released by rent.com this year on topics such as the stress of apartment hunting, and the methods property owners are finding to fill vacancies.

This steady stream of survey releases may be paying off – before September, rent.com had not been moved from its number five position in the Hitwise top 10 since July this year.

rent.com is owned by eBay, Inc and says it receives between 3 and 4 million unique visitors per month.
