realestate.com.au Says Photos Rule
September 15, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

realestate.com.au says its recent survey shows that Australians are a “nation of voyeurs” who like to search and shortlist property through images.
The gallery view survey by realestate.com.au, which investigated consumers’ search behaviour, revealed that around 60 per cent of property seekers love looking at the inside of other peoples’ houses in their spare time, and would prefer to view and shortlist properties by looking at a gallery of photographs.
The survey results coincide with the leading Australian property portal announcing the launch of a new functionality called “gallery view” that allows property seekers to get a glimpse into some of Australia’s best residential properties that are currently on the market.
Henry Ruiz, head of Consumer Marketing for realestate.com.au, said:
“Gallery view displays up to ten large photos to a page to help property seekers do their homework before they leave the house. It goes without saying – Australians have an insatiable appetite for property and gallery view caters to this demand. From our research, 88 per cent of Australians love monitoring the market and use websites like realestate.com.au as a form of entertainment or to research the property market.”
“As the old adage goes – first impressions count. If you are selling your house and don’t have the right photos, there is a potential of alienating prospective buyers through lack of engagement. The more photos the better.”
Around one third of the 2,000 Australians who took part in the online survey in August indicated price range ranked as the second highest way to shortlist properties to buy.

Looks great, but as an agent why would I now want to pay for banners at big $$$ that no one will see?
Can someone pls provide a URL? – I’ve browsed the site but can’t find any other than the standard galleries!
Totally agree with the statement that more content creates greater interest & buyer engagement….!
Further to this, effective use of the online tour / virtual tour link (available on most of the popular property portals, my favourite being realestate.com) further opens up all kinds of opportunity, this link being an example of whats possible:

There is a saying in real estate: “you can’t sell a secret”.
I agree that more content appropriatly delivered assists in the sales process. Using the “Online Tour” function within portals such as realestate.com.au can dramatically increases your chances in securing more interest, a faster sale and a better price. Here is a live example of what I am talking about from realestate.com.au. http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&id=105949202&f=0&p=10&t=res&ty=&fmt=&header=&cc=&c=11010353&s=nsw&tm=1253148993

WOW guys…..what a revelation! Did you really need a survey to find out that images are important?
C’mon stop wasting time on surveying to find the bleeding obvious!
How about a survey to find out why realestate.com.au won’t open when using IE8 browser!!?
WOW!
Big Photos!
What innovation!
