While most portals are busy investing in iPhone apps, Indian property portal magicbricks.com is investing in some more traditional telecommunications – a telephone version of the website.

magicbricks.com have launched India’s first property phone line: a toll free “MagicBricks on Phone” Service.

With so many technological advances at their fingertips, why would a portal turn the relatively old fashioned telephone? The company quotes statistics to explain this move, which show telephone penetration in India is 7.5 times that of Internet penetration, so the new phone service will address the property needs of an additional 400 million people, who have access to a telephone rather than the Internet.

Ramathreya Krishnamurthi, business head at magicbricks.com was quoted in the Times of India as saying:

The toll free phone number (1-800-200-4050) will operate 7 days from 8 am to 8 pm in eight languages – Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Kannada or Malayalam. Calls will be answered by a magicbricks.com executive, who will provide relevant information.

magicbricks.com offers over 800,000 listings and currently receives over 10 million page views per month.
