Niche Student Rental Portal Launches

A new niche portal aimed at the student rental market in Australia has launched: studentflatmates.com.au.

studentflatmates.com.au is the sister website of the more general share accommodation website, flatmates.com.au, and is run by Student Services Australia Pty Ltd alongside studentvip.com.au, Australia’s largest tertiary student portal, and textbookexchange, the world’s biggest student-to-student textbook marketplace.

With 1,600+ current share house listings studentflatmates.com.au claims to be Australia’s largest student share accommodation website. The company says that the site shares content with flatmates.com.au, but ads significantly better functionality for students.

The website contains 300+ geo-coded university and tafe campuses Australia-wide, and using a map based search students can see how far a share house is from their campus. Students can also see who is studying what, inside student houses.

A ticker on the website says that it currently has 214,839 student members who have done 94,133 flatmate searches in the last 30 days.

The site is 100% free for all users, who must join the student portal and database, studentvip.com.au, which is again free.

studentvip.com.au claims to have a current active membership of 198,000, which is 20% of the university student population.
