globrix.com Pledges To Remain Free
July 9, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

Rumours have been circulating that UK property search engine globrix.com intends to change its business model from the existing free-to-list, pay-to-upgrade model to a more typical subscription model.
Apparently this couldn’t be further from the truth.
globrix.com’s CEO Daniel Lee is keen to quash such murmurs, and told Estate Agent Today:
“We are free to list, and we always will be. We have no intention of ever charging, and if I had to change to a subscription model, I’d shut up shop tomorrow. The rumour is just nonsense.”
While listings will remain free, globrix.com is said to be planning on introducing a new paid service to enhance traffic generation by sending greater amounts of traffic and email inquiries to the agent’s own site potentially using a pay-per-lead model like the existing zoopla.co.uk and propertyindex.com models.
globrix.com reported this week that its website received over 990,000 unique visitors in June, the highest level of traffic the property search engine has ever reported. It began the month by announcing it was expanding into Ireland through a strategic partnership with Independent News & Media, to create globrix.ie.

If Globrix start charging for ‘premium’ listings then non-premium listings will probably be pushed out of the way and drive less response. Although you might be able to have free listings, you’ll probably have to pay to get any significant response.
In this context, the rather extreme quote of “We have no intention of ever charging, and if I had to change to a subscription model, I’d shut up shop tomorrow.” seems bizarre as the reality wouldn’t be light years away from a subscription model.
Globe brix was launched as a innovator and continues to “listen” as the famous words of B Dylan – Ok the free model does not work you cry – if you have the right tools- design , innovation and Content -UV’s will reach critical mass – third party – cultivating in depth tools for extras.

I would just like to add – PPL is viable at the moment , and also a one off anual fee ( equivalent of 1 – 2 months listings ) . Let me analogize with freeview tv and the BBC,ok hang in thier with me – viewing figures have dropped markedly since the eighties for the BBC and freeview channels continue to grow , BBC has survived by diversifying; adding more content via more channels and more tools such as i player.

one very last thing -BBC is funded by public? – well will people continue paying a license fee with so many channels the burgeoning fee for famous presenters competiton from so many other channels – back in 08 ITV accused the BBC of advertising by the back door- by accepting drinks manufacturer Robinsons as a sponsor of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year event. ok this is a very broad analogy but of hope you get the idea
