apartments.com Joins in with iPhone App
July 10, 2009 by Alice Allan

US specialist apartment portal apartments.com is the latest to release a free iPhone application, allowing access to a GPS based search, listing photos, floorplans, walkthrough videos, agent contact details and integrated mapping through Google Maps.
Chris Brown, vice president of product management at apartments.com, discussed the release on iphonenewstracker.com:
“apartments.com has provided access to its listings from all web-enabled phones including the iPhone since 2008. This app for iPhone and iPod touch is an extension of our mobile strategy that enables us to deliver our listings in a multimedia format that will change the way users discover and rent property.”
apartments.com came in at number 9 in the ComScore rankings of US real estate website in May this year. Its iPhone application is being released in the wake of some big success stories in terms of real estate on the iPhone. zillow.com’s iPhone application has been setting records, while US apartment portal apartmentguide.com announced its iPhone application had been featured as one of the top 20 free utility applications last month, and passed 230,000 downloads.
A Wall Street Journal blog reports that over 50,000 applications are available through Apple’s App Store. While the article estimates that Apple makes only $8 per phone from App revenue, it also points out that the constant release of new applications is a factor in the iPhone’s continued popularity.
