New Social Options on apartmentfinder.com
June 30, 2009 by Alice Allan

US apartment portal apartmentfinder.com has updated its website, adding a number of social networking options.
Parent company Network Communications, Inc. (NCI) announced the updates at the recent National Apartment Association Conference and Expo. The new social networking options include:
- “CommunitySherpa” – a custom-branded blog, Facebook and Twitter presence available to subscribers.
- The “Say It!” forum – an interactive feature that distributes user-generated information about a community through Facebook and Twitter.
- Facebook applications and Facebook connect – A post on the apartmentfinder.com blog explains that these will allow users to save searches to Facebook and share communities through to their Facebook profile, letting friends know where they are thinking of moving. Advertisers will also be able to use NCI’s Advertising Management System to display information about a community on Facebook.
NCI chairman and CEO Dan McCarthy explained the thinking behind apartmentfinder.com’s new additions:
“We believe that the core of a powerful social media program is content. But, we also recognise the challenges that social media marketing presents for many multi-family professionals, as well as all other local marketers. They clearly understand the importance of adopting a social media strategy for their business, but the idea of creating a blog or social identities across multiple platforms like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace for their apartment communities, and keeping those channels fresh with content, is daunting. At NCI, we have taken our content-driven process and skills that are already in place for our more than 25,000 customers, and have developed a way to help them execute their social media marketing…simply, affordably and effectively.”
apartmentfinder.com updated its listing features and search capabilities in May this year. Over recent months, the website has also partnered with free classifieds website olx.com, vertical search engine vast.com and global property website enormo.com.
