Top 100 Global Property Portals?
May 25, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

globaledge.co.uk have released a top 100 list of the world’s property portals. Although the list is somewhat arbitrary, and the methodology focusses on SEO and the number of internal links to a portal, it’s a worth a look at the top twenty they came up with:
1. Realtor.com – US
2. Soufun.com – China
3. Zillow.com – US
4. Immobilmente.com – Italy
5. Funda.nl – Netherlands
6. Focus.cn – China
7. Trulia.com – US
8. Move.com – US
9. Realestate.com.au – Australia
10. Gdeetotdom.ru – Russia
11. EscapeArtist.com – International
12. Immobilienscout24.de – Germany
13. Rightmove.co.uk – UK & Overseas
14. Immowelt.de – Germany
15. Domain.com.au – Australia
16. Immonet.de – Germany
17. TheMoveChannel.com – Overseas
18. Seloger.com – France
19. HomesGoFast.com – Overseas
20. FindaProperty.com – UK & Overseas
The list was compiled by globaledge.co.uk creating a shortlist of 200 or so portals, eliminating vast ones like oodle so as compare like-for-like, then running each portal through SEOmoz LinkScape Tool to see which portals were the best referenced on the internet. globaledge.co.uk assessed two main metrics:
1. The number of unique inbound links each portal has.
2. The MozRank domain score which evaluates not only the number of links but the importance of those links.
Comments on the list reflect a number of anomalies in the rankings, but it’s an interesting starting point for a discussion on what makes a global top 100 portal…
globaledge.co.uk is a UK based trade portal designed to help real estate agents and property developers do business overseas.

Hi Emma,
Thanks for covering the article. If you or Simon think I’ve missed any portals I’d appreciate your input. I’ve invited everyone to submit their suggestions and the aim is to make the list as definitive as possible. I’ve already made a few tweaks and there are 2 new additions to the top 20.
I’d also like to point out that the article really isn’t about SEO. If you don’t have reliable ISP based data (Hitwise and ComScore) then unique inbound links are the single most reliable indicator of a websites traction. Links are social in nature and are earned by dominating a niche or being remarkable.
Love your site by the way. I always read your articles.
All the best
Ashley
The number of inbound links is a very poor indicator as the quality and authority of the links is far more important than the quality. Our webite PropertyNow dominates other sites with far greater inbound link numbers.
