In February this year, Indian property portal in.iproperty.com launched iConnect, its social media platform.

iConnect takes over from the “Simply Ask” Q&A section launched on in.iproperty.com in 2007. The service is similar to a forum in that members ask questions and contribute answers, but they are also able to “friend” other members and create or join groups.

Since its launch it has grown to include seven groups and around 650 members.

in.inproperty.com is part of the iproperty.com network of property portals. At the moment, iConnect is soley for the Indian market and has not been expanded to iproperty.com’s portals for Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan or the Philippines.

Murli Ramkrishnan, COO of iproperty.com, said in a statement from the company: “iConnect is a great social media platform to educate potential buyers and helps raise confidence investing in real estate.”

Like elsewhere in the world, social networking seems to have taken off in India, with ComScore reporting a 51 percent increase in Indian visitors to social networking websites from December 2007 to December 2008. orkut.com led the survey with 12,869 million unique visitors for December 2008, followed by Facebook with 4,044 million unique visitors.

Classified Ad Ventures is the owner of propertyportalwatch.com, and also owns a stake in IPGA.

The group is suddenly into action and taking over the world step by step. India is a huge and lucrative market for online ads. Real Estate Social networking is a good move, keen to know….whats next?

Shawn, what makes you say that India is a huge and lucrative market for online ads?

I was under the impression that India was very much an emerging market, and that the 4 (5 depending on who you talk to) portals were pretty much equal, although they are separated by UB’s.

I think IPGA has been doing this activity for a while, it is just recently that it is getting a level of visibility.
