Hitwise vs Comscore
May 15, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

The latest Hitwise top 20 rankings for real estate websites in the US were announced earlier this week. Now so have the ComScore rankings.
trulia.com published the ComScore Top 20 as part of its blog post on it’s successful rise to number 6 on the ComScore list. It is listed at number 9 by Hitwise.
While the list contains the usual suspects, it’s in a slightly different order to Hitwise’s rankings.
The ComScore Top 10 rankings are:
1. move.com
2. realestate.yahoo.com
3. realestate.aol.com
4. rent.com
5. zillow.com
6. trulia.com
7. realestate.msn.com
8. homes.com
9. apartments.com
10. NCI Interactive
Comparing it to the Hitwise list, ComScore registers the move.com domain rather than realtor.com at number one while realestate.yahoo.com is steady in second place. rent.com is up to 4th place rather than 6th on Hitwise, zillow.com is down from 3rd place on Hitwise to 5th on ComScore, and trulia.com is up to 6th place rather than 9th on Hitwise. Five sites that make the ComScore Top 10 but not the Hitwise are: realestate.aol.com, realestate.msn.com, homes.com, apartments.com and NCI Interactive.
- realestate.msn.com Enters Hitwise Top 10
Hitwise has released its August figures for real estate websites in the US and the results show very little movement in the top 10....
- loopnet.com Replaces redfin.com: Hitwise
The top seven entries in the Hitwise list of US real estate websites remained unchanged during October, but there was movement within the top 20, with apartments.com up one position to take out tenth place, and redfin.com losing its spot at number 20 to loopnet.com. The results are a further boost for loopnet.com, which reported an 11 percent increase in unique visitors during the third quarter of this year based on comScore figures. The drop in visitors to redfin.com comes just after the US online brokerage announced a US$10 million round of funding along with major upgrades to its website. ...
- zillow.com Moves Up Hitwise List
For the first time in more than a year, Hitwise has recorded a change amongst the top four US real estate websites. The November rankings have zillow.com up one position to second place, replacing realestate.yahoo.com. November was an interesting month according to Hitwise, with a good deal of movement throughout the top 10. While ziprealty.com held steady at number four, both rent.com and trulia.com moved up one position to take out number five and six respectively. realtor.com still holds the number one spot....

- Hitwise Top Three Stable
The Hitwise rankings for January show no change in the top three US real estate websites. realtor.com remains in the lead, followed by realestate.yahoo.com, with zillow.com in third place. rent.com, which was in sixth place in October and fifth for the previous two months, is now number four on the list. This bumps ziprealty.com out of its long-held number four spot....

I thoroughly recommend using Alexa rankings instead of comscore and hitwise. We have found them to be much more reliable for our site. The other advantage of Alexa is that it is completely free!
A analysis of both websites move.com and realtor.com on Google trends shows Realtor.com to be the dominant website. Hence it is included in our report at GHQ.com http://www.ghq.com
I think if you have a meaningful rev line in advertising you have to rely on the hitwises and commscores as thats how the agencies measure.
