findaproperty.com Launch Google Street View
March 20, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

It’s been a week of big name partnerships for Digital Property Group (DPG) owned UK portal, findaproperty.com.
Not only was findaproperty.com revealed as the lead partner in the McDonald’s Best Chance Monopoly nationwide promotion, but it was also selected as the only UK property portal launch partner for Google Street View.
Street View is a new feature for Google Maps that enables users to view and navigate 360 degree street-level imagery of the UK’s towns, cities and regions. It has the potential to greatly enhance a property-searcher’s understanding of a neighbourhood, allowing them to view the property in question as well as the houses and streets around it.
In a statement about the launch, Chris Boorman, Head of Product Development at findaproperty.com said:
“We are naturally delighted to partner with Google for this launch. Street View is a genuine innovation in mapping and fits extremely well with the existing technology on each of our sites. It makes finding the right property even easier and we fully believe Street View will become a fundamental part of every property search.”
The company says that the technology will equally help estate agents and developers to create a comprehensive picture of an area prior to the first viewing – bringing key features, which may positively influence a decision to buy or rent, to the fore at the earliest stage.
Boorman said that Street View will complement their member agents’ listings and encourage potential buyers and renters to spend more time investigating their next home, and that “it also neatly supplements the agent’s role as the local expert with functionality that brings a property search to life”.
Street View will be available on properties located in major UK towns and cities including London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, York, Newcastle, Southampton, Bristol, Swansea and Glasgow.
It’s another marketing coup for findaproperty.com to ally itself with such a prestigious brand. The partnership also places findaproperty.com in a unique position as the only property portal chosen for the launch of Street View, giving it an extra, albeit short-lived, edge until other portals adopt the new technology.
DPG said that this cutting-edge technology will soon appear on the other three portals owned by the company: primelocation.com, homesandproperty.co.uk and findanewhome.com.

The website is down 13:37GMT Friday 20th March 2009. Not the best start for them, I find this unacceptable for a company charging agents to list properties. This down time is costing agents money

Will any research be done on how many users of findaproperty.com are using the Street View and on the click through rate?
why do property agents think street view is so fantastic? It is basically a series of OLD photos of peoples homes- how often are google photos to be retaken?Property sites provide up-to date but small standard sized photos that have been approved by the home owner, providing a link to old photos with a zoom facility does not give a true or fair ‘picture’ . And yes, I can remove pictures of my home if I wish but i cannot object to old photos of my neighbours home during renovation with boarded windows.
Give people an option if they want this link when marketing their home. At the very least date the google images – at present they show current year and a copyright symbol and not the date they were taken.
