Enormo Launch Social Media Strategy

March 18, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

Enormo claims to be the largest property search website with over 7 million properties listed for sale and rent in more than 50 countries.

So news that it has introduced a serious new social media strategy captured our interest.

Formerly known as properazzi.com (it changed its name to enormo.com last October), the company says it has 4.5 million people using the Enormo family of websites every month – one of the largest groups of international real estate hunters online.

In February enormo.com relaunched with a new look and feel as well as new features like enhanced search technology and 16 new ‘gateway’ domains for key markets, like enormo.co.uk.

Enormo says it has always had its users’ feedback as a priority, but has decided to make it easier for users to communicate with the search engine by using social media. Basically, enormo.com wants to get up close and personal and know its users better.

So Enormo are “going social”, with a social media strategy that debuted this month.

As one of the first steps towards building what Enormo argues is the first worldwide real estate community, it is starting locally with regional blogs for the UK and US as well as Spain, France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

Enormo is also building Twitter profiles for these regions. @enormo_uk already has around 400 followers, with separate profiles tweeting for the US, Spain, France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

Enormo is hoping that Twitter will allow it to reach out to bloggers and to delve further into local real estate communities. The property search engine says its Twittering has already proved fruitful, providing it with some commercial contacts in the form of the many real estate agents in the UK and US who are already active on Twitter. The company says Twitter also lets it access opinions and criticisms which it might not otherwise have known about and to feed this back into the user experience at enormo.com.

Enormo has also launched a Facebook profile, saying “we couldn’t miss being there, on one of the biggest worldwide social networks”.

Enormo is pushing deeper than the usual token social media gestures companies tend to make. Evidence of this is that it is embracing slideshare and YouTube as a means of spreading the news, as well as gathering everything together via friendfeed.

And as further evidence (if we needed it) that it truly understands the social media ethos, Enormo says it is open to suggestions: “What’s next for Enormo? You tell us!”

PropertyPortalWatch.com will watch this strategy with interest, as it unfolds over the coming months.
