Hitwise Shows January Foreclosure Boom for US

February 11, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

The latest Hitwise figures for January 2009 in the US for real estate have been announced.

As usual, the top 5 remains unchanged, and the big moves are further down the list.

homegain.com rose three places to number 6, servicemagic.com fell two places to number 8, and hud.gov fell one place to number 9.

trulia.com dug its heels in, remaining steady at number 10.

The top ten websites in terms of visits were:

1. realtor.com
2. realestate.yahoo.com
3. zillow.com
4. ziprealty.com
5. rent.com
6. homegain.com
7. remax.com
8. servicemagic.com
9. hud.gov
10. trulia.com

Unsurprisingly, the big moves were in foreclosures related websites. foreclosurestogo.com and foreclosuretogo.com both entered the top 100. foreclosure.com and foreclosurestore.com rose up the rankings to number 16 and 17 respectively.

Interactive mortgage/MLS website rateplug.com also entered the top 100 at number 70, with mydreamhomemakeover.com at number 72.

The newest entry to the top 20 was visualtour.com, up two places to scrape in at number 20.

One of the biggest non-agency specific and non-foreclosure movers was neighborcity.com, a comprehensive, easy to use real estate search engine, which jumped 474 places up the rankings.

“realtor.com” still ranks number one on the most popular search terms with “foreclosures” coming in at number 21.

Hitwise tracked 3,247 real estate category websites and January’s average visit duration for real estate online was 12 minutes, 14 seconds – a slight increase.
