Find Gr8 Apt by Txt

February 2, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

Did you know you can now find gr8 apts by txt?

If this makes no sense to you, then you’re probably not the target market for TXTAPT, otherwise known as “text apartment” – a new service providing apartment marketing by mobile phone text message.

If you happen to be text savvy it’s a bonus. But if you’re not, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pay attention. Mobiles are the new laptops, and with the new territory come a host of new applications and functionality. Naturally this means new ways to advertise property and new ways for users to search for it.

TXTAPT allows information about apartments for rent to be sent to an apartment seeker’s mobile phone.

Daniel Ellis, founder of Houston based TXTAPT, says: “We came up with the idea because the sweet spot for apartment hunters and text messengers are about the same age”.

So how does it work?

Advertisers signed up to TXTAPT include a unique keyword in any advertising about the property. The apartment seeker simply sends a text message with the unique apartment ID to the number “368266″ (DOTCOM). Within seconds the apartment seeker receives a text message with information about the property.

“We use a multiple choice format by text message, and allows you to choose what information you want to receive. We will set a community up on our Automated Text message listing service with a code that would look like this “TXTAPT (Their Code)” and the number that the potential tenant would text to is ‘368266’,” says Daniel.

The company’s website, txtapt.com, also functions like a traditional portal and contains listings for apartments from advertisers currently using their services.

The service is free to renters, with the advertiser or agent signing up to pay a set fee for a listings package that covers online and txt. Advertisers can place the code and the number anywhere – banners, traditional newspaper ads, websites, portals – to get maximum exposure.

If you’re in the US, you can try out a demo by text messaging “TXTAPT Demo” to “368266″.
