rightmove.co.uk Generates Record Leads

January 13, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

In a competitive market, leads are everything to estate agents. Good leads are worth even more. So the news that rightmove.co.uk began the year with a record number of leads should have everyone smiling.

Estate Agent Today reported rightmove.co.uk claims that their leads more than doubled on Monday 5 January, the first full working day of the new year, compared with the same day in 2008.

It set a new record for the portal with almost 44,500 leads sent to agents on Monday, compared with half the number (20,092) on the same day in 2008.

Estate Agent Today quoted Miles Shipside, commercial director of rightmove.co.uk, as saying: “Our statistics show that inquiries about properties are flooding to estate agents at record levels. Sellers in distress are having to be more open to offers and prospective buyers who have been holding off for a few months are now busy inquiring about possible bargain purchases.”

Judging from the large number of comments by readers on Estate Agent Today, the news was greeted with a mix of excitement and scepticism, with many still complaining about lead quality, portal fees and value. But the volume of comments certainly indicates that the news of record breaking lead quantities has hit a nerve with agents in a tough market. As one commented: “if these figures get quoted in the press, it can only be a good thing for agents”.

The news of the record breaking lead quantities follows the launch of the “See More” marketing campaign, worth millions of pounds, which rolled out late last year.

I wonder what % of leads are sent from their mass spamming tool at the bottom of the search results.

It’s worth pointing out that the increased buyer registrations will probably have been affected by their new TV advertising campaign (the woman running through gardens) and possibly also the number of forthcoming vendors who are about to have to face reality and sell, who are now looking to see what they will be able to buy as they downsize.

I saw those ads over the Christmas break and found them very annoying!
Does any one know which ad agency was responsible?
