Ownership

findanewhome.com is owned by Associated Newspapers, the publishers of The Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, The Evening Standard and Metro, offering additional marketing opportunities for member agents. findanewhome.com runs independently of Associated Newspapers however, from its offices in Brighton.

It operates under the umbrella of the Digital Property Group, who are actively keeping each of their four portals separate (in addition to findanewhome.com they also own primelocation.com, homesandproperty.co.uk and findaproperty.com) in an attempt to retain the differentiated market segments.

Market Position

findanewhome.com has overtaken previous UK market leader smartnewhomes.com as the most-visited new homes portal according to Hitwise figures from November 2008. smartnewhomes.com is owned by another publisher, Trinity Mirror plc, (who also own email4property.co.uk and fish4.co.uk). It also faces competition from newhomesforsale.co.uk, which was established in 2005 by independently owned Property Papers Ltd, a publisher of New Homes magazines since 1998.

Key Measurements
(December 2008)

Hitwise figures reveal that in November 2008 findanewhome.com received 5.6% more visits than smartnewhomes.com. As it lies under the “new homes” tab of findaproperty.com, it has a share in visitors to its sister website which attracts around 1.5 million visitors per month.

Market Coverage

UK wide.

Advertising Model

Pay-to-list. The Digital Property Group have revealed their new “value based” pricing structure. The value based pricing model takes into account factors such as the agent’s location, number of properties advertised, and the average value of the properties. The company says the price of advertising on their portals will therefore better reflect the potential value they can offer to an agent’s business. Agents are being encouraged to advertise across all four of the websites owned by the parent company.

findanewhome.com was launched in 2006 as a property portal for new build properties from UK developers. Alongside the property search is independent editorial to educate house hunters on the buying process.

The site is modelled on its successful sister website, findaproperty.com which was established in 1997, and operates under the “new homes” tab of the findaproperty.com website.

findaproperty.com was one of the first property portals in the UK market. It has grown to be one of the big 4 property websites in the UK attracting ~1.5 million visitors a month. findaproperty.com was acquired in November 2004 by Associated Press and now powers the property search facility for all 60+ of Northcliffe Media’s local and regional newspaper websites.
