myhome.ie More Popular Than daft.ie?
November 24, 2008 by Emma Sorensen
myhome.ie is leaping ahead in popularity in Ireland, according to the latest survey report published by the Joint National Internet Research (JNIR).
Only a fortnight ago, Ireland’s oldest and biggest property website, daft.ie, released ABC electronic audit figures that show it’s still the number one destination for house hunters in Ireland.
The ABC electronic audit figures publicised by daft.ie show myhome.ie is ranked 5th, while daft.ie was number 1 overall.
However, this week a press release from myhome.ie says the JNIR survey shows myhome.ie is the number one property website in Ireland and the seventh most popular site in the JNIR league table.
According to JNIR, who gather their results by survey, the ten top most viewed websites in Ireland were:
Yahoo.ie
Eircom.net
Ticketmaster.ie
rte.ie
Goldenpages.ie
Irishjobs.ie
MyHome.ie
Entertainment.ie
Loadsajobs.ie
Ireland.com
Commenting on the JNIR results, Jim Miley, CEO of myhome.ie said:
“In spite of the challenges in the current property market the latest Joint National Internet Research (JNIR) report confirms myhome.ie remains hugely popular as people continue to keep a close watch on the property market. The addition of new site features such as our www.myhometv.ie channel and the growing audience for rentals on myhome.ie has seen our site traffic and audience continuing to grow month by month”.
myhome.ie was established in 2001 and claims over 1200 estate agents are members, with the website receiving over 520,000 unique visitors each month.
daft.ie was founded in 1997 and ABC electronic audit figures show 85 million page impressions from 1,025,838 unique browsers.

Hi Emma, Note that these results are not a true representation of website usage in Ireland. The findings are limited as Joint National Internet Research (JNIR) only covers 19 Irish websites who all pay to participate in the research. Daft.ie is not included in the JNIR survey. There is a need however for one transparent, independent source that measures website traffic. One such solution is Irelandmetrix which has just launched in the Irish market, http://www.irelandmetrix.ie/
Daft.ie leads the way over their competitors in Ireland in terms of number of properties listed (the website currently lists three times the quantity that Myhome.ie lists) and measuring techniques such as Google trends and ABC electronic.
The JNIR is a paid for survey, and there is more information available about its methodologies and scope at its website, linked to above and here: http://www.jnir.ie.
Hi Anne Marie,
Agree that there needs to be a more transparent reporting metric in the industry. In relation to my question on your last post – what is DAFT’s breakdown of UBs per Sales/Letting/Share?
I’m interested in how a property portal’s usage is being affected in this climate.
Thanks Again
Hi Kiaran,
Daft.ie’s September traffic indicates that the property portal’s popularity is continuing to witness an upward trend. The residential sales section is ahead of lettings and sharing, which would point to the surge in property speculation caused by recent economic developments in Ireland i.e The (Government financial) Budget, State Bank Guarantee and the reduction in mortgage interest rates by the European Central Bank. In saying that, the rentals side of things is also popular, and we are seeing twice the amount of rental properties on the market as this time last year. This is good news for would-be renters.
