propertyfinder Battles to be Top Dog

October 27, 2008 by Emma Sorensen

The UK property market might be slowing down, but the race to be top of the portal world never stops.

Current leader of the pack is, of course, rightmove.co.uk, which claims over 90% of UK agents are members. It also boasts a reputation that ranks it as one of the UK’s top 20 most popular websites overall, ahead of brands like Yahoo.

But all eyes are currently on propertyfinder.com as it claims increased web traffic in September has given it the much-coveted second place.

However, Estate Agent Today has had an interesting look at the figures and the race might not be a clear as propertyfinder.com would like us to believe.

Although September’s Comscore figures confirm that propertyfinder.com has beaten findaproperty.com, Estate Agent Today claims The Digital Property Group (which unites Primelocation.com, findaproperty.com, homesandproperty.co.uk and findanewhome.com), still ranks second, only one step behind market leader rightmove.co.uk:

A little number crunching shows that Propertyfinder network’s overall figures at 1.67m, which include 371,000 for UK Property Shop and 279,000 for HotProperty, are behind those of the Digital Group as a whole, which are over 2 million. In September, Primelocation alone provided 824,000 of the latter’s tally of visitors.

Regardless of which way the figures are cut, the battle is hotting up.

  2. zoopla.co.uk Challenges DPG Growth

zoopla.co.uk is reporting comScore data, collected before the UK portal’s integration with propertyfinder.com, hotproperty.co.uk and thinkproperty.com, that puts its unique visitor numbers up nearly 13.87 percent in October compared to September. zoopla.co.uk’s statement quotes comScore figures that show a 0.57 percent drop in market leader rightmove.co.uk’s unique visitor numbers from September to October, an 11.33 percent drop for Digital Property Group’s findaproperty.com, a 1.09 percent drop at DPG-owned primelocation.com, and a 5.34 percent drop in unique visitors for propertyfinder.com....

  3. UK Portals Battle for Decreasing Traffic

Internet traffic analyst, comScore has released November figures for the UK. These will be a Christmas present for some, and a source of discontent for others, as the race to claim the overall top spot for 2008 reaches its final stages, and overall real estate web traffic declines....

  4. propertyfinder.com Takes on primelocation.com with Premium Property Site

The stock market might be taking everyone for a roller coaster ride, but propertyfinder.com are clearly remaining optimistic, with the launch of a “premium” portal designed to hit the top end of the property market: propertyfinder.com/premium. The question is will this site take on primelocation, the current market leader in premium properties....

  5. Why rightmove should acquire propertyfinder

Times are tough in the UK market at the moment and it seems to me that the best value creating play would be a merger of rightmove and propertyfinder and therefore increase the gap between rightmove and the rest of the market....
