propertylive.co.uk is now live

Earlier this week we told you not to hold your breath, but we can now all relax. propertylive.co.uk is finally, really, truly, live.

It seems we underestimated the speed at which the NFOPP could get a website on the scale of propertylive.co.uk up and running.

In an interview with Estate Agent Today, Peter Bolton King, chief executive of NFOPP, said technical glitches had caused the site’s delay. Now they’ve been cleared up the team are busy loading onto the portal some 50,000 of the 200,000 properties they have already signed up.

Propertylive.co.uk’s main selling point is that it will showcase UK commercial and residential property from around 13,000 estate agents, all of whom are members of a professional body under the NFOPP umbrella (eg: the NAEA).

Propertylive.co.uk hopes that for renters and buyers this may be appealing as they are the “only property search site that’s regulated, protected and run by a professional body of fully accredited agents”.

The current Beta version of the website hosts a fairly standard search and display function, enhanced only slightly with the aid of Google maps.

This basic site will need more bells and whistles in order to compete for user-traffic with other portals and real estate search engines already offering add ons like reviews, neighbourhood guides and similarly useful applications.

One advantage for propertylive.co.uk is that accredited agents will be able to place their listings on te site for free.

This may help grow the site is the rumours are true and agents are joining together to lobby for lower fees for paid portal sites like rightmove.co.uk and primelocation.com.  Therefore  the launch of another site that that is free to list such as propertylive.co.uk could be timely (read our news story on this topic here).

But it remains to be seen if propertylive.co.uk will be up to the challenge.

These agents will be able to place their listings for free. The main question is whether the new site will present any competition to the UK’s existing Big 4.
