The site was launched in May 2001, to offer industry-owned competition to the major independent portals. Initially the site focused on Victorian properties and went head to head with realestate.com.au and domain.com.au. While initial progress was strong, the site failed to overtake both realestate.com.au and domain.com.au in the Victorian market.

Over the years, realestateview.com.au has been rumoured to be involved with discussions with the Real Estate Institutes in other states however a true national site driven by the Real Estate Institutes has yet to come to fruition. realestateview.com.au now offers residential and commercial properties for sale and rent across all states of Australia except WA.

Over the last couple of years, realestateview.com.au has also entered the data market and now provides data reports to consumers as well as the industry.
